Come Sailing on Pelican
Friday 28 May to Tuesday 1 June
After last year when we had no club charters at all we are arranging a block booking of a number of berths on the mainmast barquentine Pelican. We shall join the ship in Weymouth on the evening of Friday 28 with a view to sailing early next morning heading across Channel, weather conditions permitting, with a destination in Brittany or Normandy depending on wind direction. It is planned to return to Weymouth in the late afternoon/early evening of Tuesday 1 June. The cost is £399 all found, but does not include any food on the Friday evening.
Bring your own sleeping-bags, pillow-cases and wet-weather gear, but the accommodation is in bunks, not pipe-cots! This is a great opportunity for members to get together to sail on Britain’s most recently commissioned square-rigger, and we can offer members a 5% discount on the cost provided we get at least 10 bookings.
The voyage is already being advertised to the public so please contact Tim
info@marinersinternational.org as soon as possible if you are interested and we will send you the booking application forms. An initial deposit of £100 will be required.
Further details of the ship are available on the website www.adventureundersail.com
Thames Sailing Barge Repertor
which was sailed by MI members in July 2003 with guest skipper and renowned bargeman Jimmy Lawrence.
In September 2008 members of Mariners International chartered the Thames Sailing Barge PUDGE enjoying fine sailing in strong winds off Clacton. Thanks to Steve Bond for the picture of Repertor a steel hulled barge of the same era.
