SAILING on IRENE
Irene plans to be at Milford Haven’s Seafair at the beginning of July, Bristol Harbour Festival at the end of July.
There are berths available from Milford Haven moseying up the Bristol channel leg. After London, now September Irene should be pretty open to those who want to sail from London to the South coast, moseying along until it is time to make for Bristol, where we will winter.
Charge is £120.00 per berth, per 24 hours, with discounts for larger groups. Mariners should get in touch with:

‘My Early Days Barging’
Our Dinner is again at the Civil Service Club in Great Scotland Yard, off Whitehall, not far from Trafalgar Square. The speaker will be our honorary member, Jim Lawrence. Better known these days for having started James Lawrence Sailmakers in Brightlingsea, http://www.jameslawrencesailmakers.com Jim started his career sailing cargo-carrying Thames Barges commercially, before moving on to skipper them for charter as pleasure craft. Jim’s talk, with slides, will concentrate on his earlier experiences.

Limited overnight accommodation is available at the Club and it is recommended that it should be booked as soon as possible - double/twin rooms at £110, singles at £80 including VAT and breakfast. There is underground parking (expensive) in Trafalgar Square, but otherwise there are underground stations nearby.
GUIDED TOUR OF THE OLD ROYAL NAVAL COLLEGE, GREENWICH

As a follow-on from the Annual Dinner, Geoff Bragg, is once again arranging a guided tour of the Old Royal Naval College http://www.oldroyalnavalcollege.org for members and their guests. The cost is £5 per head, with an option for lunch together and a visit to the National Maritime Museum afterwards. Please book for this with your dinner tickets- detailed timings and instructions will be given at the dinner.
Thames Sailing Barge Repertor
which was sailed by MI members in July 2003 with guest skipper and renowned bargeman Jimmy Lawrence.
In September 2008 members of Mariners International chartered the Thames Sailing Barge PUDGE enjoying fine sailing in strong winds off Clacton. Thanks to Steve Bond for the picture of Repertor a steel hulled barge of the same era.
